Radio.de is frustrating

Radio business is under pressure. In almost every conversation between radio broadcasters you can hear and feel the danger that comes from new media: Ipod, webcasts, lastfm, google are the key words for this decease that can make broadcasters jobless.

On the other hand radio could do much better in avoiding to loose influence on its audience.
One example:
Just try to setup a blog. There are a lot of so called 'widgets' means features you can put on your blog to make it more entertaining: video bars from youtube, music news from MTV, weather forecasts from CNN.

But if you simply try to find a radio widget you are lost. First option is lastfm. But like most other listeners you might just want to listen to your favorite radio station. So you try to find it. Finally in a secondary layer there is the option to choose 'radio.de'. It is a new service for listening to FM radio stations online.

You post it to your widget list. Looks as if it works. You are now searching for your station. It takes veeeerrrryyyy long to select stations. In the end your favorite station is not on the list. So you choose an alternative station. You finally start the blog again. Unfortunately the station could not be saved - you give up.

This is not the way radio should be represented on the Web 2.0.

If radio wants to stay attractive it should be available as easy as any other widgets.

(You can try it your on: radio.de is posted on the right side)

When I went to radio.de on Saturday, it took forever for the station I had picked to load the stream. So in the end I went to the station's website to listen to the stream from there.
